We were instructed by a client in relation to a significant road traffic accident involving her husband. He was assisting with the transport of heavy machinery in the early morning. During the course of the transport, part of a tree was knocked on to the road outside the yard where the machinery was being transported to. Our client’s husband was attempting to move the tree off the road with other employees when a car collided with the tree causing our clients husband to sustain a number of very significant injuries.
Our clients husband sustained a brain injury, shoulder dislocation, pneumothorax, lacerated spleen, rib fractures, displaced fractures of the spine and hearing loss among other injuries. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for a considerable period of time and thereafter transferred to a rehabilitation facility.
Proceedings were issued in the High Court against a number of defendants. A large number of medical reports were required due to the nature of injuries. Ultimately the matter was listed for hearing but settled prior to the hearing date at mediation for €1 million plus costs.
